Week 5: The Acceptance

Phase 1: Awareness

George's Story

There's a moment I remember clearly.

It was late November 2025. I'd been sitting with all of this — the exposure, the grief, the resistance, the money math — for weeks.

I was on a call with a friend who runs a VC fund. We were talking about the market, AI, the usual. And he said something offhand:

"The junior roles are going first. They're the easiest to automate. Then the middle. The only thing that survives is the top of the pyramid — and even that's shrinking."

He wasn't talking about my business specifically. But I heard it anyway.

And something shifted.

I stopped fighting it.

Not in a defeated way. In a clear way. Like: "Okay. This is real. This is happening. What now?"

What Changes When You Accept

Before acceptance, every conversation about AI felt like a threat. I was defensive. I was looking for reasons it wouldn't affect me.

After acceptance, the same conversations felt different. I was curious. I was looking for opportunities.

Nothing external had changed. The technology was the same. The market was the same. But I was different.

I stopped asking "why is this happening to me?" and started asking "what can I do about it?"

That's the shift.

The World Has Changed

Here's what I believe is true:

The world has changed. Not "is changing" — has changed.

Junior roles are disappearing first. Offshoring is reversing because AI is cheaper than overseas labor. The middle is hollowing out.

The career path that existed 10 years ago — graduate, climb the ladder, retire — is gone. It's not coming back.

This isn't doom. It's reality. And reality is the only place you can build from.

What I Want You to Feel

By the end of this week, I want you to feel... settled.

Not happy, necessarily. Not excited. Just... clear.

"The world I trained for is gone. The new world is [something]. I'm going to operate in the new world."

That clarity — that acceptance — is the foundation for everything that comes next.

Phase 1 is complete. You've done what most people can't: looked honestly at what's happening, named what you're losing, examined your resistance, faced the money question, and accepted reality.

This reflection does not establish a twelve-month advantage over anyone else.

Now we figure out who you are without the title.

This Week's Tasks

Day 29 — 10 Truths (20 min)

Write up to 10 observations, assumptions or open questions about AI and your work. Label each one. For an observation, record a source, date and what was actually measured; for an assumption, record what evidence would change it.

Uncertainty is a valid answer. You do not need to agree with the author’s macroeconomic thesis to complete the exercise.

Reflect: Keep your list in your notes.

Day 30 — Community (5 min)

Revisit one item from Day 29. Look for evidence that challenges it and keep the uncertainty visible. An optional conversation can offer another interpretation.

Day 31 — Your Industry (15 min)

Research: What's happening to entry-level jobs in YOUR industry right now?

Find one data point, headline, or story.

Reflect: Share it + "This means ______"

Day 32 — Letter to a 22-Year-Old (15 min)

Write a letter to someone just entering your field. What would you tell them?

Keep this. You might share it someday.

Day 33 — Reflection (5 min)

Reflect:

"What has changed in my work, what remains useful, and what is still uncertain?"

  • A) Faster than I thought
  • B) Scarier but more open
  • C) One where I need to own something
  • D) Unclear; I will choose a review date before deciding
  • E) Something else: ______

Day 34 — Rest

Catch up or breathe.

Day 35 — Letter From the Future (15 min)

Write a letter to yourself from 5 years in the future.

What do they wish you understood today? What do they thank you for doing now?

Reflect: Share a piece of it.

🎉 Phase 1 Complete

You've done what most people can't — looked honestly at what's happening, named what you're losing, examined your resistance, faced the money question, and accepted reality.

This reflection does not establish a twelve-month advantage over anyone else.
