Week 13: Graduation

Phase 3: Movement

George's Story

Day 90.

When I look back at where I was 90 days before I killed SimpleDirect versus 90 days after, the difference is stark.

Before: I was defending. Rationalizing. Telling myself stories about why I was safe. Avoiding the uncomfortable questions.

After: I was clear. Not certain — I still didn't have all the answers. But clear. I knew my exposure. I knew my assets. I knew which layers were safe. I knew what I was building toward.

That clarity was worth more than any specific business idea.

What Actually Changed

Here's what I understand now that I didn't understand 90 days earlier:

1. The world changed. Not "is changing." Changed.

The career path I trained for doesn't exist anymore. That's not pessimism — it's reality. And reality is the only place I can build from.

2. I am not my job title.

"The SimpleDirect guy" was a convenient identity. But it was borrowed. The real me — the person who asks hard questions, who helps people see clearly, who isn't afraid of uncomfortable truths — that exists independent of any company.

3. I have more than I thought.

Skills, relationships, knowledge, experience. When I actually inventoried it, I was surprised. I'd been so focused on what I was losing that I forgot to count what I had.

4. The safe layers are clear.

Identity, relationships, stakes, selection, accountability. If I'm operating in those layers, I'm harder to replace. If I'm not, I'm exposed.

5. Small experiments beat big plans.

I didn't need a perfect strategy. I needed to try things and learn. The experiments taught me more than any amount of thinking would have.

Where I Am Now

It's been a year since I killed SimpleDirect.

I'm building something new: Freedom — an 8-week intensive for people who've done the internal work and are ready to build. And Resurrection — transformation for businesses dying from AI.

Both operate in the safe layers. Both require me specifically. Both are things I own.

I don't know if they'll work. But I know they're the right things to try.

And I know that whatever happens next, I can navigate it. Not because I'm special. Because I did the work. The seeing. The grieving. The inventorying. The experimenting.

That's what the last 90 days gave you.

This Week's Tasks

Day 85 — Then and Now (15 min)

Re-read your Day 1 notes and your Day 4 inventory estimate. Compare what you observed then with what you have evidence for now.

Reflect: "Day 1 me was ______. Day 85 me is ______"

Day 86 — What You Know (10 min)

What do you understand now that you didn't 90 days ago?

Reflect: 3 things.

Day 87 — What You Did (15 min)

List every action you took — small counts.

  • Conversations
  • Experiments
  • Nos
  • Notes and optional conversations

Reflect: Your list.

Day 88 — Draft (20 min)

Write your graduation post (template below).

Day 89 — Post

Edit your reflection. Keep it in your own journal, share it with someone you trust, or publish it on a platform you already use with the #graduation tag. Sharing is optional; Founder Reality does not host these posts.

Day 90 — Celebrate

If you know others who completed the exercises, read their reflections and celebrate with them. Otherwise, revisit your own Day 1 notes and acknowledge what changed.

Reflect: "I graduated. 🎓"
