Week 10: The Experiment

Phase 3: Movement

George's Story

After I killed SimpleDirect, I didn't immediately start a new business. That would have been stupid.

I ran experiments instead.

First experiment: Could I help founders with decisions beyond SaaS and fintech? I reached out to 5 people I knew and offered to do a "strategy session" for free. Just to see if I could add value outside my old niche.

3 of them said yes. 2 of those sessions turned into something real — ongoing relationships where they'd call me when facing hard decisions.

Second experiment: Could I build an audience around the "AI displacement" thesis? I wrote 3 Twitter threads about what I was seeing. One got 200 likes. Two got ignored. But I learned something: people resonated with the framework more than the specific advice.

Third experiment: Could I charge for high-stakes transformation? I reached out to one business owner I knew who was struggling and offered a 6-week intensive. He said yes. I charged $50K (my first Resurrection client).

None of these were "the business." They were tests. Cheap ways to learn what worked without betting everything.

The Philosophy

You don't need a business plan. You don't need to quit your job. You need ONE small experiment.

Something that tests an idea. Something that moves you toward the safe layers. Something small enough to actually do.

The goal isn't success. The goal is learning.

My first Twitter threads were embarrassing. My first strategy sessions were clunky. My first Resurrection engagement had a dozen things I'd do differently.

But each one taught me something I couldn't have learned from thinking.

This Week's Tasks

Day 64 — Brainstorm (15 min)

List 5-10 tiny experiments you could try without quitting your job:

  • A conversation with someone doing what interests you
  • A small side project
  • Writing something publicly
  • Helping someone with your skill
  • Building something small

Reflect: Share 3-5.

Day 65 — Community (5 min)

Review your Day 64 experiment. Identify one small adjustment or ask someone you trust for feedback. No participation in a hosted community is required.

Day 66 — Pick One (10 min)

Choose ONE experiment.

Reflect:

"I'm trying: ______" "Success in 2 weeks looks like: ______"

Day 67 — Step One (10 min)

What's the FIRST tiny step? Not the whole thing — just step one.

Reflect: "Step one: ______. I'll do it by [day]."

Day 68 — Do It (varies)

Take the step.

Reflect: "Did it. Here's what happened: ______"

Day 69 — Rest

Catch up or breathe.

Day 70 — Reflection (10 min)

What did you learn? What friction did you hit?

Reflect: Honest debrief.
