Ownership & agency · A fictional story

How much of this was you?

You made something with AI’s help. The useful explanation depends on the help and the audience. Change those two things and watch a short authorship note take shape.

Make the process visible.

How this was made

No process assumed. Choose the AI help above to assemble the note.

What might a reader assume was written or illustrated by a person?

What the note can and cannot say

The human work in these examples is invented too. A real note should name only the decisions, checks and contributions that actually happened. A disclosure does not perform those checks.

Audience expectations, a client's agreement or a publisher's policy may call for different wording. This exercise does not establish a universal disclosure requirement or confirm permission to use AI.

Compose a process note on paper

These are fictional contributions by an invented studio. Combine the relevant AI contributions with the human work that actually happened, then add the audience context. Nothing is assumed when no help is selected.

Suggest wording

AI suggested wording changes. The studio chose the final phrasing.

Write a first draft

AI produced the first text draft. The studio rewrote the draft and checked its factual claims.

Generate an illustration

AI generated the illustration. The studio set the visual direction and selected the image.

When both wording suggestions and a first draft were used, name both AI contributions. The studio's rewriting and checking statement covers its final-phrasing decision.

Public newsletter: How this was made

Client concept: Production note

Alongside the concept handoff. This is a concept for review, not a finished production asset.

Does this process fit the actual brief and the client's agreed expectations?

Process portfolio: Process credits

Beside the work sample. This sample presents the studio's decisions alongside its AI-assisted steps.

Can someone distinguish the studio's contribution from the generated material?

A real note must describe real work. It does not itself check the work, establish permission or satisfy every agreement or publisher policy. There is no universal disclosure rule asserted here.

Make your part understandable.

A useful explanation says what the tool did and what you did. The audience, agreement and purpose can change what needs explaining. Taking responsibility includes being clear about the parts you actually checked.

Context changes the explanation

These are authored examples of transparent wording, not universal disclosure requirements or legal advice. A private idea, client commission and other contexts can have different expectations. Check the relevant agreement, policy and audience before relying on an example.

Do not claim to have reviewed or verified work unless you did. AI assistance does not settle questions about ownership, originality or permission to reuse source material. No note from this story is sent or copied into a real project.

All scenarios and outputs are invented. Choices stay in page memory and reset on reload. No real work, subscription, application or message is changed.
